the linear and single factor attitude towards human being behavior (in the range of normality and abnormality) is no longer valid. currently human being is considered a live and dynamic system and behavioral problems, fluctuating mood states, mental illnesses and disturbances of personality are no exclusions from this ‘system’. a comprehensive holistic and systematic approach in this regard is required. substance abuse and dependence is also an outcome of a complex network of interactive relations and multiple elements involved. therefore, applying the holistic approach after and before treatments (during prevention) is a necessity. in other words, development of prevention programs in schools should be set according to cutting edge scientific findings and strong theories and offered in a research based, scientific and holistic format. this article explains different approaches to substance use prevention in early ages.
