چکیده
clostridium difficile is the most common cause of nosocomial diarrhea. it is usually a consequence of antibiotic treatment, but sporadic cases can occur. this study was aimed to determine the frequency of the nosocomial clostridium difficile (c. difficile) associated diarrhea in tehran university of medical sciences hospitals and study of antibacterial susceptibility of isolates. in this study a total of 942 stool samples from patients with nosocomial diarrhea that were hospitalized in imam khomeini hospital, shariati hospital and children clinical center were collected. the samples were cultured on a selective cycloserine cefoxitin fructose agar (ccfa) and incubated in anaerobic conditions, at 37°c for 5 days. isolates were characterized to species level by conventional biochemical tests. bacterial cytotoxicity was assayed on tissue culture (vero). antimicrobial sensitivity of isolated toxigenic c. difficile were investigated by kirby beuer method (disk diffusion). our findings show that, of the total patients, 57 toxigenic c. difficile (6.1%) were isolated. results of statistical analysis show significant differences between the rate of isolated toxigenic c. difficile and age group of patients (p

متن کاملMolecular Analysis of Toxigenic Clostridium difficile Isolates from Hospital Environment by PCR Ribotyping Method
Background and Aims: Clostridium difficile is an identified cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, antibiotic-associated colitis, pseudomembranous colitis and nosocomial diarrhea. The objective of this survey was to determine molecular analysis of toxigenic Clostridium difficile isolates from hospital environment in Tehran tertiary medical centers. Materials and Methods: In this descriptiv...

This retrospective, case-control study aimed to identify variables associated with the incidence of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) in acute care facilities and to specifically identify the relationship of fluoroquinolones and acid suppressive agents in the development of CDAD. Seventy-one symptomatic patients positive for C. difficile toxin A or B hospitalized for at least 72 ...
متن کاملThe Frequency of Toxigenic Strains of Clostridium difficile in Hospitalized Patients with Diarrhea in Tehran/Iran by PCR Method, 2010
Background & Aims: Clostridium difficile has been identified as a pathogen in antibiotic associated diarrhea (AAD), pseudomembranous colitis and also nosocomial diarrhea. The present study was performed to find the prevalence of toxigenic strains of C .difficile isolated from diarrhea patients hospitalized in Tehran hospitals. Method: A total of 98 fecal samples obtained during July to December...

At our hospital, the number of cases of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea increased from 29 in 1993 to 210 in 1995. The case notes of 110 patients with C difficile-associated diarrhoea during the first 6 months of 1995 were analysed retrospectively. The majority of the patients (106) had received antibiotics before the onset of diarrhoea; 46 had received three or more different antibio...
