چکیده
background: brownbanded bamboo sharks (chiloscyllium punctatum) is one of the cartilaginous fish that lives in the persian gulf. objectves: the purpose of the present study is to study the effects of thyroid hormone on reproductive system of this specious. methods: in this investigation, 36 individual of brownbanded bamboo sharks (chiloscyllium punctatum) in both autumn (before reproduction) and spring (period of reproduction) seasons were caught from dervish’s creek located at the northern of persian gulf. after weighing, biometry, sex determination and the numbering of sharks, (the sex is determined through clasper which is observed in male and not in female), elisa was used to measure serum thyroid hormone concentrations. results: the results showed that t3 and t4 hormones were increased dramatically in the reproductive season compared with the non-breeding season (p

Long-term sperm storage in the brownbanded bamboo shark Chiloscyllium punctatum.
This study investigated the birth of a brownbanded bamboo shark Chiloscyllium punctatum at the Steinhart Aquarium. Genetic analyses suggest this is the longest documented case of sperm storage for any species of shark (45 months).
متن کاملCharacterization of the trunk neural crest in the bamboo shark, Chiloscyllium punctatum.
The neural crest is a population of mesenchymal cells that after migrating from the neural tube gives rise to structure and cell types: the jaw, part of the peripheral ganglia, and melanocytes. Although much is known about neural crest development in jawed vertebrates, a clear picture of trunk neural crest development for elasmobranchs is yet to be developed. Here we present a detailed study of...
متن کاملOntogenetic changes in retinal ganglion cell distribution and spatial resolving power in the brown-banded bamboo shark Chiloscyllium punctatum (Elasmobranchii).
The development of the visual system in anamniotic vertebrates is a continual process, allowing for ontogenetic changes in retinal topography and spatial resolving power. We examined the number and distribution of retinal ganglion cells in wholemounted retinae throughout the protracted embryonic development (∼5 months) of a chondrichthyan, i.e. the brown-banded bamboo shark Chiloscyllium puncta...
متن کاملMorphology and distribution of taste papillae and oral denticles in the developing oropharyngeal cavity of the bamboo shark, Chiloscyllium punctatum
Gustation in sharks is not well understood, especially within species that ingest food items using suction. This study examines the morphological and immunohistochemical characterisation of taste papillae and oral denticles in the oropharynx of the brown-banded bamboo shark Chiloscyllium punctatum and compares their distribution during development. Taste papillae of C. punctatum are located thr...
متن کاملAcanthocheilus rotundatus (Nematoda: Acanthocheilidae) from the intestine of shark (Carcharhinus macloti) in Persian Gulf, Iran
In a parasitic study on five Sharks (Carcharhinus macloti) caught from the Iranian coasts of Persian Gulf, two of five sharks appeared to have nematode in their intestine. Using light microscopy, the nematode was identified as Acanthocheilus rotundatus. A. rotundatus is characterised by 3.3-4.5 cm in length, semithick cuticle, small lips, semicircular and tri-lobed pseudolabia (not offset from...
متن کاملStudy of MicroRNAs Related to the Liver Regeneration of the Whitespotted Bamboo Shark, Chiloscyllium plagiosum
To understand the mechanisms of liver regeneration better to promote research examining liver diseases and marine biology, normal and regenerative liver tissues of Chiloscyllium plagiosum were harvested 0 h and 24 h after partial hepatectomy (PH) and used to isolate small RNAs for miRNA sequencing. In total, 91 known miRNAs and 166 putative candidate (PC) miRNAs were identified for the first ti...
