mapping quantitative trait loci in livestock using simple regression approach

چکیده
the availability of the saturated dna marker maps in livestock has made it possible to locate quantitative trait loci (qtl) in these domestic animals. the objective of this research was to investigate the principles of applying the simple regression for qtl analysis in paternal half-sib (phs) design commonly used in livestock species. the theoretical aspects of the simple regression approach for qtl mapping in phs design were studied. simulation study showed that the power of qtl detection using the regression method increased as the sample size and qtl effect increased. also increasing family size led to improved precision and accuracy of qtl parameters (estimates of qtl location and effect). the experimental beef cattle weaning data recorded on 366 animals from three half-sib families genotyped for 189 microsatellite markers were analyzed exploiting the simple regression approach. the results revealed two large qtl affecting weaning weight. the two detected qtl were located on bovine chromosome 14 (bta14) and (bta16) at 29 and 81 cm, respectively.

In this study 90 individuals of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) were developed by crossing subspecies of japonica rice cultivar, ‘Nagdong’ and an indica type cultivar, ‘Cheongcheong’. These individuals were used to identify the quantitative trait loci of panicle traits using SSR markers. A genetic linkage map was constructed using one hundred fifty four simple sequence repeat ...

متن کاملQuantitative Trait Loci Mapping
With the increasing number of polymorphic markers identified on the genetic map, positional cloning has become an extremely powerful tool, permitting the linkage and identification of a large number of disease genes. As the human genome project pro gresses and the gene map becomes as dense as the microsatellite polymorphism map, scientists will identify more disease genes through a combination...
متن کاملMapping Quantitative Trait Loci Using Distorted Markers
Quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping is usually performed using markers that follow a Mendelian segregation ratio. We developed a new method of QTL mapping that can use markers with segregation distortion (non-Mendelian markers). An EM (expectation-maximization) algorithm is used to estimate QTL and SDL (segregation distortion loci) parameters. The joint analysis of QTL and SDL is particularl...
متن کاملRegression-based quantitative trait loci mapping: robust, efficient and effective.
Regression has always been an important tool for quantitative geneticists. The use of maximum likelihood (ML) has been advocated for the detection of quantitative trait loci (QTL) through linkage with molecular markers, and this approach can be very effective. However, linear regression models have also been proposed which perform similarly to ML, while retaining the many beneficial features of...
متن کاملMultiple-trait mapping of quantitative trait loci after selective genotyping using logistic regression.
Experiments to map QTL usually measure several traits, and not uncommonly genotype only those animals that are extreme for some trait(s). Analysis of selectively genotyped, multiple-trait data presents special problems, and most simple methods lead to biased estimates of the QTL effects. The use of logistic regression to estimate QTL effects is described, where the genotype is treated as the de...
