serum pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance, advanced oxidized protein products (aopp) and protein carbonyl in patients with stroke

چکیده
background stroke is the second cause of death and disability in the world, and oxidative stress which could be considered as a prognostic factor in patients for prevention, follow up and determination of stroke’s severity has a conceivable role in neural damage. objectives the aim of our study was to explain the association between oxidant/antioxidant imbalance as a prognostic factor in patients with stroke. patients and methods pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance (pab), advanced oxidized protein products (aopp) and protein carbonyl were measured in patients with ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke as well as healthy group. sera were collected from 18 ischemic and 23 hemorrhagic stroke patients, and 34 healthy volunteers. the pab assay, routine biochemical parameters, lipid profile and total protein concentration were assessed in patients and healthy group. results the level of aopp (p < 0.007), protein carbonyl (p < 0.001) and pab (p < 0.01) were significantly higher in stroke patients than the healthy group. conclusions there are increased level of protein carbonyl, aopp and pab in patients with stroke. measuring these factors may be beneficial as prognostic factors in treatment and follow up of the patients with both hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. more investigations with more cases and longer follow up are needed to approve that these factors play an important role in prognosis of stroke.

Serum total protein, albumin and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP)--implications in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
BACKGROUND The role of oxygen free radicals in the initiation, promotion and progression of carcinogenesis and the protective role of anti-oxidant defenses have been the subject of much speculation in the recent past with conflicting reports in the literature. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to measure the concentration/levels of serum total proteins, albumin and advanced oxidation prote...
متن کاملSaffron supplements modulate serum pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance in patients with metabolic syndrome: A randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial
Objectives: We have investigated the effect of a saffron supplement, given at a dose of 100 mg/kg, on prooxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB) in individuals with metabolic syndrome. Materials and Methods: A randomized, placebo-controlled trial design was used in 75 subjects with metabolic syndrome who were randomly allocated to one of two study groups: (1) the case group received 100mg/kg saffron ...

BACKGROUND/AIMS In this study we aim to evaluate the relationship of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), total thiol, total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) levels and oxidative stress index (OSI) in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 28 patients with NASH and 19 age-and-gender-matched healthy subjects were enrolled ...
متن کاملSerum protein carbonyl and total antioxidant capacity levels in pemphigus vulgaris and bullous pemphigoid
Background: Pemphigus diseases including pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and bullous pemphigoid (BP) are autoimmune diseases that cause severe blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. Among inflammatory mediators, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in the pathogenesis of a wide variety of diseases through oxidative stress for which protein carbonyl (PC) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) ...
متن کاملThe Serum C-reactive Protein and Prooxidant-antioxidant Balance in Patients with Esophageal Cancer Compared to Healthy Subjects
Introduction: The molecular mechanisms involved in pathogenesis of esophageal cancer have been the main concern of several studies. In this study, we aimed to investigate the changes of serum prooxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB) value as a redox index, as well as serum C-reactive protein (CRP) compared to healthy control group. Materials and Methods: In a cross-sectional study, blood samples we...

conclusions barberry supplementation reduces oxidative burden in patients with metabolic syndrome. results there was no significant difference between the groups regarding their baseline pab values (p = 0.32). a significant decrease in pab was observed in the barberry group (p = 0.022), whilst there was no significant change in the control group (p = 0.18). the magnitude of change in pab during...
