چکیده

conclusions based on these data, we can argue that circulating glucose concentration is not directly affected by serum resistin in t2dm. it seems that resistin affects glucose indirectly, through insulin resistance. results we found that serum resistin had a positive significant correlation with insulin resistance (p = 0.000, r = 0.64). no significant correlation was found between serum resistin and fasting glucose concentration in the studied patients (p = 0.21, r = 0.23). background resistin is a recently discovered signal molecule that has been linked to obesity, type ii diabetes mellitus (t2dm) and metabolic syndrome. objectives this study aimed to assess whether serum resistin is associated with insulin resistance and glucose concentration in males with t2dm. patients and methods thirty two adult non-trained males with type ii diabetes, 34-48 years old and 88-110 kg of body weight, participated in this study by accessible sampling. fasting blood samples were collected from all participants in order to measure serum resistin, insulin and glucose concentration. homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (homa-ir) was calculated using fasting insulin and glucose. relations between variables were determined by pearson correlations.

Serum resistin a biomarker of type II diabetes development

Background: Resistin and ghrelin are hormones that have roles in the glucose and lipid homeostasis and weight regulation. Human studies regarding resistin and ghrelin in diabetic patients are scarce, especially in the cases of normotensive and non-obese patients. This study was designed to illuminate some of the missing points. Methods: Eighty diabetic patients and eighty healthy individuals par...

Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance for evaluating insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy.

Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) is a simple and useful method for evaluating insulin sensitivity. But it is difficult to apply to type2 diabetes patients treated with insulin. We have devised a method for measuring HOMA-IR and investigated the validity of HOMA-IR for evaluating insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy. In the first arm...

Biological variation of homeostasis model assessment-derived insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes.

OBJECTIVE Individuals with type 2 diabetes are particularly vulnerable to cardiovascular disease. Insulin resistance is a major determinant of this increased risk and is a potential therapeutic target. This study was undertaken to establish the natural biological variation of insulin resistance in individuals with type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS The biological variation of insuli...

Role of resistin in obesity, insulin resistance and Type II diabetes.

Resistin is a member of a class of cysteine-rich proteins collectively termed resistin-like molecules. Resistin has been implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity-mediated insulin resistance and T2DM (Type II diabetes mellitus), at least in rodent models. In addition, resistin also appears to be a pro-inflammatory cytokine. Taken together, resistin, like many other adipocytokines, may possess a...

The Effect of Resistance Exercise on Blood Glucose, Insulin and Insulin resistance in Iranian Patients with Type II Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objective: Resistance exercise is recommended as effective treatments for people with type 2 diabetes. However, the impact of this mode of exercise on blood glucose, insulin and insulin resistance in Iranian's type 2 diabetic patients is unclear. We conducted a systematic review of the literature for the effect of resistance exercise training on these clinical markers in Iranian's type 2 diabet...
