Zero-error attack against coherent-one-way quantum key distribution

چکیده
Abstract Coherent-one-way (COW) quantum key distribution (QKD) held the promise of distributing secret keys over long distances with a simple experimental setup. Indeed, this scheme is currently used in commercial applications. Surprisingly, however, it has been recently shown that its rate scales at most quadratically system’s transmittance and, thus, not appropriate for distance QKD transmission. Such pessimistic result was derived by employing so-called zero-error attack, which eavesdropper does introduce any error, but still legitimate users system cannot distill secure key. Here, we present an improved attack against COW-QKD significantly outperforms previous approaches, and provides stronger restrictions on maximum achievable absence errors. This translates into upper bound more than order magnitude lower previously known bounds.

متن کاملZero-error attacks and detection statistics in the coherent one-way protocol for quantum cryptography
This is a study of the security of the Coherent One-Way (COW) protocol for quantum cryptography, proposed recently as a simple and fast experimental scheme. In the zero-error regime, the eavesdropper Eve can only take advantage of the losses in the transmission. We consider new attacks, based on unambiguous state discrimination, which perform better than the basic beam-splitting attack, but whi...
متن کاملA Necessary Condition for the Security of Coherent- One-Way Quantum Key Distribution Protocol
The coherent-one-way and the differential-phase-shift protocols are two of the most recent practical quantum key distribution protocols for quantum cryptography. These protocols belong to a class of so-called distributed-phase-reference quantum key distribution protocols. While security proofs for some limited attacks exist, the unconditional security proofs this class of protocol remain unreal...
متن کاملQuantum key distribution using polarized coherent states
We discuss a continuous variables method of quantum key distribution employing strongly polarized coherent states of light. The key encoding is performed using the variables known as Stokes parameters, rather than the field quadratures. Their quantum counterpart, the Stokes operatorsˆSi (i=1,2,3), constitute a set of non-commuting operators, being the precision of simultaneous measurements of a...
