The measurements resulting from the analysis of the LEP2 data have brought more strong evidence in support of the standard electroweak model. In particular the LEP2 data has revealed (i) the first determination of the SU(2) gauge bosons self-couplings, (ii) the first direct measurements of the W decay-couplings, and (iii) the current best direct measurement of the W mass.

The main physics topics of interest at LEP2, the CERN electron-positron collider with center-of-mass energy in the range (161-192) GeV, are reviewed. Progresses in both the precision tests of the standard model and the field of discovery physics attainable at this machine are discussed. A few results of the analysis of data collected in the 1996 first runs of LEP2 are also presented.

The preliminary results on the search of colour reconnection effects (CR) from the four experiments at LEP, Aleph, Delphi, L3 and Opal, are reviewed. Extreme models are excluded by studies of standard variables, and on going studies of a method first suggested by L3, the particle flow method 1 , are yet inconclusive.
