Younger adults are more prosocial than older adults in economic decision making results from the give and take game

چکیده
The present study was designed to investigate the disadvantageous and advantageous inequity aversion of young older adults in situations which allowed them maximize or minimize payoff inequalities. Given very limited evidence regarding an actual age-related effect on aversion, purpose this examine question using economic game, “the Give-and-Take Game”, is able circumvent certain limitations Ultimatum Game, evaluate (i.e., a same behaviour can be induced by opposite motivations: prosocial vs. pro-self altruistic orientations). In “Give-and-Take sum money randomly distributed between participant dummy player. These distributions created monetary inequalities, either for (to aversion) other player aversion). Different response options were proposed participants inequalities players. This procedure not only differentiate individual’s profiles with more orientations, but also effects these profiles. results showed that important orientation compared their younger counterparts. They frequently selected maximized own payoffs less averse adults. contrast, similar level aversion. Older focused competitive dimension may have motivated payoffs. Conversely, took into account social focusing fair distribution.

Information selectivity in decision making by younger and older adults
P ast research has demonstrated that older adults are more likely than younger adults to exhibit information selectivity in decision making. Two alternative explanations have been proposed to account for this age difference. One explanation attributes the increase in information selectivity to older adults’ reliance on prior knowledge, whereas the other explanation suggests that it reflects red...
متن کاملReduced Sensitivity to Immediate Reward during Decision-Making in Older than Younger Adults
We examined whether older adults differ from younger adults in the degree to which they favor immediate over delayed rewards during decision-making. To examine the neural correlates of age-related differences in delay discounting we acquired functional MR images while participants made decisions between smaller but sooner and larger but later monetary rewards. The behavioral results show age-re...
متن کاملMotor Learning and Movement Performance: Older versus Younger Adults
Introduction: Motor skills play an important role during life span, and older adults need to learn or relearn these skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate how aging affects induction of improved movement performance by motor training. Methods: Serial Reaction Time Test (SRTT) was used to assess movement performance during 8 blocks of motor training. Participants were tested i...
متن کاملKeeping it steady: older adults perform more consistently on cognitive tasks than younger adults.
People often attribute poor performance to having bad days. Given that cognitive aging leads to lower average levels of performance and more moment-to-moment variability, one might expect that older adults should show greater day-to-day variability and be more likely to experience bad days than younger adults. However, both researchers and ordinary people typically sample only one performance p...
متن کاملOlder adults' affective experiences across 100 days are less variable and less complex than younger adults'.
Older adults are often described as being more emotionally competent than younger adults, and higher levels of affect complexity are seen as an indicator of this competence. We argue, however, that once age differences in affect variability are taken into account, older adults' everyday affective experiences will be characterized by lower affect complexity when compared with younger adults'. In...
