‘You can’t repeal regret’: targeting men for mobilisation in Ireland’s abortion debate

This study explores how social movement organisations involved in the abortion debate Republic of Ireland attempted to appeal men their campaign messages before 2018 referendum on Eighth Amendment concerning abortion. We scrape organisations’ Twitter accounts conduct quantitative and qualitative content analyses images videos posted, find evidence that sometimes extended frames as voters. Social evoked themes hegemonic masculinity imagery messaging, though these were not a large portion overall tweets there distinct differences this was done by two we study. Previous research suggests anti-abortion extend incorporate ‘pro-woman’ messaging. Our contributes exploring ways may be both anti- pro-abortion actors target mobilise public debates over women’s rights.
