Yielding and rheopexy of aqueous xanthan gum solutions

چکیده
Xanthan gum (XG) is widely used in cosmetic and pharmaceutic products (creams, pastes) oil industry (drilling fluids) as a stabilizing and/or thickening agent. In literature, its rheological behavior mainly presented that of shear-thinning or yield stress fluid. Here, order to clarify this behavior, we study detail the flow characteristics during continued under given conditions (i.e., controlled stress) for mass concentration ranging from 0.2 5%. We are thus able identify apparent curve material after short duration steady state long duration). The validity curve, determined standard rheometry, confirmed by magnetic resonance velocimetry. These materials start exhibit beyond some critical xanthan salt concentration. case, significant increase (by factor up 5) viscosity observed range stresses, before reaching state. This original rheopectic effect might be due, time associated with deformation reconfiguration XG molecules, progressive formation intermolecular links such hydrogen bonds association due acetate residues.

Time-Dependent Rheology of Concentrated Xanthan Gum Solutions
The objective of the present study is to systematically elucidate the time-dependent rheological behavior of concentrated xanthan gum solutions in a wide variety of shear flow conditions. In order to analyze the time-dependent behavior, start-up, interrupted shear flow, step shear flow and cyclic shear flow experiments have been conducted in this work.
متن کاملRheology of concentrated xanthan gum solutions: Oscillatory shear flow behavior
Using a strain-controlled rheometer, the dynamic viscoelastic properties of aqueous xanthan gum solutions with different concentrations were measured over a wide range of strain amplitudes and then the linear viscoelastic behavior in small amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields was investigated over a broad range of angular frequencies. In this article, both the strain amplitude and concentrat...
متن کاملCharge screening effects on filament dynamics in xanthan gum solutions
We experimentally investigate the filament dynamics of non-Newtonian drops falling under gravity through air, and report the effects of semiilute concentrations of the polyelectrolyte polymer xanthan gum mixed in 80:20 glycerol/water with varying concentrations of potassium chloride KCl). We find that the addition of 780 ppm xanthan gum to the glycerol/water solvent dramatically increases the d...
متن کاملXanthan gum: production, recovery, and properties.
Xanthan gum is a microbial polysaccharide of great commercial significance. This review focuses on various aspects of xanthan production, including the producing organism Xanthomonas campestris, the kinetics of growth and production, the downstream recovery of the polysaccharide, and the solution properties of xanthan.
متن کاملXanthan gum and colonic function in man.
It was with interest that I read this paper, which looks at the effect of feeding xanthan gum on colonic function in man. The authors look at whether it is possible to predict the laxative effect of a polysaccharide from its fermentation characteristics in vitro, as proposed by Adiotomre et al. (1990). However, the authors have not used the methodology used in the Adiotomre paper and, therefore...
