چکیده
Conspicuously little critical attention has been devoted to Byron’s earliest publication, less even his first collection, Fugitive Pieces (1806), a book of poems—‘trifles’, as he calls them—written in teenage years and meant only be circulated privately among friends. Even for those critics who do not dismiss simply puerile, the consensus that ‘it did yet embody final thoughts’ (Cochran) leads conclusion books are unmistakeably personal works (McGann), is say, express mental interiority its infancy. While this doubtlessly true, material linguistic dimensions early poetic experiments at risk being lost an overtly biographical reading. ‘Words things’, says Byron various points across oeuvre. Rather than positing juvenilia expressive certain character, stage development, I want trace continuity ideas, specifically regarding (still embryonic) relationship between thinghood word.

One approach to the paradoxes of self-referential languages is to allow some sentences to lack a truth value (or to have more than one). Some years ago Matt Ginsberg introduced the notion of bilatti...
