Rethinking Laboratory Notebooks
Abstract We take digitalization of laboratory work practice as a challenging design domain to explore. There are obvious drawbacks with the use of paper instead of ICT in the collaborative writing that takes place in laboratory notebooks; yet paper persist in being the most common solution. The ultimate aim with our study is to produce design relevant knowledge that can envisage an ICT solution...
متن کاملWittgensteins Seeing-as and A Theory of Art
In this paper I will show how Wittgenstein's concept of seeing-as might serve as the foundation for a theory of art. The theory that I will develop is a sketch, and general themes will take precedence over details. I will describe a way of distinguishing between art objects and other objects, consider what makes art, art, give a Wittgensteinian 'definition' of art appreciation, examine various ...
متن کاملRamanujan’s Earlier Notebooks and His Lost Notebook
Since the centenary of Ramanujan's birth, a large amount of Ramanujan's mathematics that had been ensconced in his earlier notebooks and in his lost notebook has been brought to light. In particular, in 1987, only one book had been written on Ramanujan's notebooks [2], but now several have appeared [2], [1]. We now have a larger portion of Ramanujan's mathematics to appreciate, evaluate, analyz...
متن کاملComputational Notebooks for AI Education
Computational notebooks are documents that serve dual purposes: they serve as an archive format containing code, text, images and equations; but they can also be run like computer programs. This paper explores the use of these new computational notebooks to teach AI and introduces tools that we have developed — ICalico and Calysto — to facilitate that use. Not only do these new tools broaden th...
