Winter refuge for freshwater fish

چکیده
The ecological aspect of the behavioral and physiological adaptation fish in autumn-winter period water bodies temperate subarctic climatic zones Northern Hemisphere is considered. It has been established that studied areas with a decrease temperature form aggregations deep, low-speed sites for successful wintering. In considered life cycle, metabolism slows down to reduce depletion lipid reserves; therefore, this group aquatic organisms forms accumulations fundamental properties - depth low flow rate. This phenomenon can be behavioral-physiological developed as result evolutionary processes. results work on discovery such wintering grounds have noted continents Eurasia North America. Fish families use winter refuge include Cyprinidae, Percidae, Coregonidae, Thymallidae, Salmonidae, Lotidae, Esocidae, Siluridae, Acipenseridae.

Winter Refuge for Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus Mosquitoes in Hanoi during Winter
Dengue occurs throughout the year in Hanoi, Vietnam, despite winter low temperatures <10°C. During July 2010 to March 2012, we surveyed monthly for Aedes larvae and pupae in 120 houses in 8 Hanoi districts. Aedes albopictus preferred discarded containers in summer and pupal density drastically decreased in winter. Aedes aegypti preferred concrete tanks and this preference increased in winter. E...
متن کاملResponse of freshwater microcosm communities to nutrients, fish, and elevated temperature during winter and summer
Under conditions of stress, shallow freshwater ecosystems can undergo a state change characterized by the rapid loss of macrophytes and subsequent dominance of phytoplankton. Elevated water temperature may promote such change. Here we report the impact of two warming regimes (continuous 38C above ambient and 38C above ambient during summer only), with two nutrient loadings and the presence or a...
متن کاملFolkbiology of freshwater fish.
Cross-cultural comparisons of categorization often confound cultural factors with expertise. This paper reports four experiments on the conceptual behavior of Native American and majority-culture fish experts. The two groups live in the same general area and engage in essentially the same set of fishing-related behaviors. Nonetheless, cultural differences were consistently observed. Majority-cu...
متن کاملSediment quality in freshwater impoundments at Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.
Freshwater impoundments at Savannah National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), South Carolina, provide an important habitat for wildlife species, but degraded sediment quality in the Savannah River downstream of the discharge from two impoundments have caused concern about potential contaminant problems within the impoundments. The quality of sediments from five impoundments (impoundments no. 1, 2, 6, 7, ...
متن کاملFish intake and serum fatty acid profiles from freshwater fish.
BACKGROUND Although high mercury concentrations in fish diets raise an alarm, fish can also be a healthy choice because it is the primary source of n-3 fatty acids (FAs). However, little information is available on the contribution of freshwater fish to serum FA concentrations. OBJECTIVE This study examined the FA pathway from fish to serum in 243 moderate consumers of freshwater fish. DESI...
