Wind Tunnel Tests Reveal Aeolian Relocation Processes Related to Land Cover and Surface Characteristics in the Souss Basin, Morocco

چکیده

The Souss Basin is a dryland environment featuring soil, surface and climatic conditions enhancing processes of wind erosion mineral organic dust emissions while subject to frequent grazing, tillage driving. fine-grained compacted surfaces are covered by physical biological crusts stone cover sparsely vegetated open argan woodland patchily distributed bushes. Wind-tunnel experiments soil sampling were conducted on the deeply incised alluvial fans originating from High Atlas Anti-Atlas mountains investigate ecosystem, including woodland, for information local wind-induced relocation associated emission potential. To possible connections between environmental traits emissions, we used two approaches: (a) categories (stone cover, crust cohesionless sand) (b) Land Cover Classes (wasteland, wadi). results indicate omnipresent dynamic aeolian regional scale. Wind impact powerful trigger on-site available may be crucial explain heterogeneous spatial distribution carbon nutrients with fines. Aeolian flux showed statistically significant relations and, some extent, Classes. While key understanding sediment nutrient dynamics fertile islands, also considerable potential under increasing climate anthropogenic pressure.

Representation of land-surface processes in aeolian transport models

Mathematical modelling provides an essential tool for understanding aeolian transport of dust and sand, its spatial and temporal dynamics, and its role in the earth system. As much of the crucial action takes place at or just above land surfaces, adequate representation of land-surface processes is essential. In this paper, we review progress in aeolian transport modelling during last two decad...

Characterizing Land Cover Impacts on the Responses of Land Surface Phenology to the Rainy Season in the Congo Basin

Knowledge of how rainfall seasonality affects land surface phenology has important implications on understanding ecosystem resilience to future climate change in the Congo Basin. We studied the impacts of land cover on the response of the canopy greenness cycle (CGC) to the rainy season in the Congo Basin on a yearly basis during 2006–2013. Specifically, we retrieved CGC from the time series of...

[Ophidian envenomation in the region Souss-Massa-Drâa in Morocco].

The present study aims to determine the main characteristics of ophidian envenomation in the Souss-Massa-Drâa region in Morocco. It consisted of a descriptive retrospective analysis of all snakebite cases recorded by the Moroccan Poison Control and Pharmacovigilance Center, from 1980 to 2008. According to reported data, this region is the most affected in Morocco with 479 cases, that is 27.6% (...

Identifying land cover variability distinct from land cover change: Cheatgrass in the Great Basin

An understanding of land use/land cover change at local, regional, and global scales is important in an increasingly human-dominated biosphere. Here, we report on an under-appreciated complexity in the analysis of land cover change important in arid and semi-arid environments. In these environments, some land cover types show a high degree of inter-annual variability in productivity. In this st...
