چکیده

The planning of offshore wind energy projects requires observations over long periods for the establishment speed distributions. In marine environment, high-quality in situ are sparse and restricted to point locations. Numerical modeling is typically used determine spatial variability resource. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) from satellites can be retrieval fields ocean at a high resolution. recent launch constellations small SAR by private companies will improve sampling scenes significantly coming years compared with current rates offered multi-purpose missions operated public space agencies. For first time, retrieved series StriX delivered Synspective (Japan) also Sentinel-1 European Space Agency. satellite winds FINO3 mast North Sea. This leads root-mean-square errors 1.4–1.8 m s−1 negative biases −0.4 −1.0 s−1, respectively. Although Geophysical Model Functions (GMF) applied retrievals have not yet been tuned observations, accuracy satisfactory. Through conditional sampling, we estimate resource future scenarios where number orbit increasing time. We find that hourly samples needed fully capture diurnal site investigated. Global wind speed retrieval from SAR

The global availability of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) wave mode data from the European Remote Sensing (ERS) satellites ERS-1 and ERS-2, as well as ENVISAT, allows for the investigation of the wind field over the ocean on a global and continuous basis. For this purpose, 27 days of ERS-2 SAR wave mode data were processed, representing a total of 34 310 imagettes of size 10 km 5 km, available ...

Synthetic Aperture Radar for Offshore Wind Resource Assessment and Wind Farm Development in the UK

The UK has an abundant offshore wind resource with offshore wind set to grow rapidly over the coming years. Optimisation of energy production is of the utmost importance given the high installation and maintenance costs of offshore turbines; accurate estimates of wind speed characteristics are critical during the planning process. While operational assessment methods which rely upon in-situ obs...

California offshore wind energy potential

This study combines multi-year mesoscale modeling results, validated using offshore buoys with highresolution bathymetry to create a wind energy resource assessment for offshore California (CA). The siting of an offshore wind farm is limited by water depth, with shallow water being generally preferable economically. Acceptable depths for offshore wind farms are divided into three categories: 20...

Use of SAR wind measurement techniques to support offshore wind farming

Active microwave radar satellites transmit and receive radar signals with wavelengths in the range of centimeters to one meter thus measuring the roughness of the sea surface, which enables the retrieval of wind and ocean wave fields. Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR) are capable of imaging synoptic wind fields with a coverage of up to 500 km x 500 km and a resolution of down to 100 m. As the rad...

Wind resource assessment of Khuzestan province in Iran

In this research paper, a 10 minute period measured wind speed data at 10 m, 30 m, and 40 m heights are presented for one of the major provinces of Iran. Four stations in Khuzestan- Abadan, Hosseyneh, Mahshahr, and Shushtar- are analyzed to determine the potential of wind power generation in this province. From the primary evaluation and by determining mean wind speed and also the Weibull f...
