Wi-BLE: On cooperative operation of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth low energy under IPv6

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) are popular wireless communication techniques with the development of integrated combo chips, it is common these days that a single mobile/edge/IoT device supports both BLE. Given two have clearly different pros cons (e.g., high throughput vs. low power consumption), can experience significant performance improvement if link layers utilized adaptively according to environments. However, since nontrivial challenge address their heterogeneity, been used for purposes as separated silos. In this paper, we investigate how operate BLE synergistically under IPv6 in context low-power multihop network. Specifically, design Wi-BLE, an interface between layer handles control plane (multihop route construction) data (link choice transmission) over doing so, consider various aspects links, such throughput, transmission range, consumption. addition, compensate lack routing protocol BLE, MABLE, submodule builds ad hoc routes energy-efficiently by deeply considering BLE's connection-based operation. We implemented Wi-BLE on Linux kernel evaluated its indoor testbed. Our empirical results verify cooperative use improves reliability energy efficiency significantly.
