Why Terminology Matters for Successful Rollout of Carbon Dioxide Utilization Technologies
نویسندگان
چکیده
To realize their full sustainability potential, carbon dioxide utilization technologies (carbon capture and utilization/CCU) presently require policy support. Consequently, they acceptance among a variety of stakeholders in industry, making, the public sphere alike. While CO 2 is already topic discourse these stakeholders, there lack common terminology to describe such technologies. On contrary: The present article shows that field currently used inconsistently, different designations as CCU, CCUS, or CDR convey meanings contexts. These ambiguities may cause communication problems with regard funding proposals, especially discourse. In order initiate accompany goal-oriented knowledge-based debate on future, actors are asked question own choices assess its accuracy. Acronyms technical abbreviations chief potential misunderstandings, so should be avoided whenever possible else include brief explanation. Consistent precise use will facilitate transparent dialogue concerning future.

Stronger growth in many plants stimulated by increased CO2 concentration should lead to greater biological productivity with an expected increase in the photosynthetic storage of carbon. Thus, the biosphere will serve as a sink for CO2, though it will also act as a source too, because of respiration. Normally net photosynthesis dominates in summer and removes CO2 from the atmosphere, whereas re...
متن کاملWhy does carbon dioxide produce analgesia?
Carbon dioxide (CO2) has been used to euthanatize laboratory animals because of its rapid analgesic and sedative effects. However, the mechanism of these effects is unclear. To investigate the anesthetic effect of CO2, we used isolated spinal cords of neonatal rats as an alternative to living animals. In this preparation, stimulation of the dorsal root mainly evokes two types of reflex potentia...
متن کاملCarbon dioxide chemistry: Examples and challenges in chemical utilization of carbon dioxide*
The development of catalytic methods for chemical transformation of CO2 into useful compounds is of paramount importance from a standpoint of C1 chemistry and so-called green chemistry. The kinetic and thermodynamic stability of CO2 molecule presents significant challenges in designing efficient chemical transformations based on this potential feedstock. In this context, efforts to convert CO2 ...
