When the threat is stronger than the execution: trade and welfare under oligopoly

چکیده
We compare the effects of changes in trade costs on volumes and gains from under Cournot Bertrand competition. In both cases, threshold below which possibility affects domestic firm's behavior is same; welfare U-shaped reasonable conditions. However, typically greater competition; for higher volume competition, implying a “van-der-Rohe Region”; and, even costs, there exists “Nimzowitsch Region”, where competition though no takes place.

One determinant of peace is the role of women in society. Some studies suggest that a young age structure, also known as a “youth bulge” can facilitate conflict. Population growth and age structure are factors amenable to change in a human rights context. We propose that policies which favor voluntary family planning and the education of women can ameliorate the global burden of disease associa...

Bad emotions, bad parents, and bad feedback have more impact than good ones, and bad information is processed more thoroughly than good. The self is more motivated to avoid bad self...
متن کاملWhen are Bytecodes Faster than Direct Execution?
We demonstrate the tradeoffs between interpreting code in compact forms (such as the bytecoded method formats used in Smalltalk and Java), and direct execution of code (as in dynamic-translation Smalltalk and just-in-time Java compilers). Experiments with the interpreted Smalltalk language show that the widely held belief that direct execution is always faster than compact interpretation is not...
متن کاملImplicit Mercantilism, Oligopoly, and Trade
The authors propose a new model of trade between developing and advanced economies to capture the effects of important asymmetries in the organizations of their industries. This model demonstrates how the industrial structure of a developing economy can evolve to produce what the authors call “implicit mercantilism.” Free entry plus domestic oligopoly in a developing economy, when combined with...
