چکیده

Spontaneous imbibition has been receiving much attention due to its significance in many subsurface and industrial applications. Unveiling pore-scale wetting dynamics, particularly upscaling the Darcy scale are still unresolved. In this work, we conduct image-based pore-network modeling of cocurrent spontaneous corresponding quasi-static imbibition, homogeneous sintered glass beads as well heterogeneous Estaillades. A wide range viscosity ratios wettability conditions taken into account. Based on our results, show influence heterogeneity dynamics nonwetting entrapment. We elucidate different pore-filling mechanisms which helps us understand dynamics. Most importantly, develop a non-equilibrium model for relative permeability phase, adequately incorporates This is crucial final goal developing two-phase with measurable material properties such capillary pressure permeability. Finally, propose some future work both numerical experimental verifications developed model.

The impact of porous media heterogeneity on non-Darcy flow behaviour from pore-scale simulation

The effect of pore-scale heterogeneity on non-Darcy flow behaviour is investigated by means of direct flow simulations on 3-D images of a beadpack, Bentheimer sandstone and Estaillades carbonate. The critical Reynolds number indicating the cessation of the creeping Darcy flow regime in Estaillades carbonate is two orders of magnitude smaller than in Bentheimer sandstone, and is three orders of ...

Investigation of pore-scale random porous media using lattice boltzmann method

The permeability and tortuosity of pore-scale two and three-dimensional random porous media were calculated using the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Effects of geometrical parameters of medium on permeability and tortuosity were investigated as well. Two major models of random porous media were reconstructed by computerized tomography method: Randomly distributed rectangular obstacles in a uni...

Pore-scale modeling of transverse dispersion in porous media

[1] A physically based description is provided for the transverse dispersion coefficient in porous media as a function of Péclet number, Pe. We represent the porous medium as lattices of bonds with square cross section whose radius distribution is the same as computed for Berea sandstone and describe flow (Stokes equation) and diffusion (random walk method) at the pore scale ( mm) to compute th...

Pore scale simulation of solute transport in fractured porous media

[1] We investigate the effects of the porosity (and thus permeability) of porous matrix and the fracture aperture on transport in fractured porous media. We do so with detailed lattice Boltzmann simulations on constructed porous media with a single fracture. Both plume spatial moments (the average plume velocity and the dispersion coefficients) and mass transfer coefficients between the facture...

Crystal Dissolution and Precipitation in Porous Media: Pore Scale Analysis

In this paper we discuss a pore scale model for crystal dissolution and precipitation in porous media. We consider first general domains, for which existence of weak solutions is proven. For the particular case of strips we show that free boundaries occur in the form of dissolution/precipitation fronts. As the ratio between the thickness and the length of the strip vanishes we obtain the upscal...
