Welfare Impact of Hosting Refugees in Ethiopia

This paper examines the welfare impact of hosting refugees in Ethiopia, one largest refugee-hosting countries worldwide. The findings reveal different implications depending on type household metric. While reducing consumption expenditure per capita and increasing probability falling into poverty, it has no effect wealth status poverty. Decomposing food, education, other non-food components, results further that alters composition consumption, as solely affects food expenditure. effects prevail rural areas with urban centers while heterogeneity is found concerning poverty results. Key mechanisms explaining adverse include displacement hosts from salaried employment a spike prices agricultural inputs but not changes extent societal cooperation.
