The article theorises how covering social risks through cash transfers and in-kind services shapes public attitudes towards including/excluding immigrants from these programmes in Western European destination countries. argument is that are more restrictive of granting access to benefits than services. This hypothesis tested across ten protection using original survey data collected Denmark, Germany the UK 2019. Across three countries, representing respectively a democratic, conservative liberal welfare regime context, finds does indeed have preference for easier benefits. also results be stable same risks; examples child childcare. even left-wing, mainstream radical right-wing voters; with partial exception voters UK.
