Weeds in Cover Crops: Context and Management Considerations

چکیده
Cover crops are increasingly being adopted to provide multiple ecosystem services such as improving soil health, managing nutrients, and decreasing erosion. It is not uncommon for weeds emerge in become a part of cover crop plant community. Since the role cropping supplement service provisioning, we were interested assessing impacts on provisioning. To our knowledge, no research has examined how may impact provision disservices. Here, review disservices associated with annual agroecosystems present two case studies from United States illustrate growing fall-planted can ground cover, decrease potential losses, effectively manage nitrogen. We argue that certain circumstances, enhance In other herbicide-resistant weeds, should be managed limit weed biomass fecundity. Based current literature, conclude extent which allowed grow largely context-dependent.

Herbicide Resistant Weeds and Crops
Modern herbicidal weed control often exploits physiological differences among plants and takes advantage of herbicide tolerance or resistance in crop plants to bring about the selective removal of susceptible weeds. The Weed Science Society of America defines herbicide tolerance as “the inherent ability of a plant to survive and reproduce after herbicide treatment” which suggests that herbicide...

متن کاملGlyphosate - Resistant Crops and Weeds : Now and in the Future
The adoption of transgenic crops (also called GMOs and biotech crops) worldwide has been rapid and impressive, reaching 120 million ha in 2008, and continues to grow at a steady pace (James, 2008). Approximately 80% of the total area devoted to these crops has been planted with herbicide-resistant crops, virtually all being glyphosate-resistant (GR) crops. Thus, a single genetic trait—glyphosat...
متن کاملYield losses of soybean and maize by competition with interseeded cover crops and weeds in organic-based cropping systems
Weed management is a major issue in organic farming systems. Although interseeding cover crops is one alternative to herbicides, cover crops often suppress not only weeds but also main crops. Therefore, using cover crops for weed control without adverse effects on main crop growth is important. To verify the effect of cover crops on competition between main crops, cover crops and weeds in snowy...
متن کاملIdentification of Begomoviruses Infecting Crops and Weeds in Belize.
Plants including pepper, red kidney bean, squash, string bean and tomato, as well as weeds with viral symptoms were collected from five districts in Belize over a three year period with the aim of determining the diversity of the begomoviruses present. Sixty five percent of the samples screened via DNA hybridization produced signals indicative of begomovirus infection. Subsequent PCR amplificat...
