Wealth distribution of simple exchange models coupled with extremal dynamics
Punctuated Equilibrium (PE) states that after long periods of evolutionary quiescence, species evolution can take place in short time intervals, where sudden differentiation makes new species emerge and some species extinct. In this paper, we introduce and study the effect of punctuated equilibrium on two different asset exchangemodels: the yard sale model (YS, winner gets a random fraction of ...
متن کاملEntrepreneurial investment dynamics and the wealth distribution
Using restricted firm level data from the Kauffman Firm Survey, I document that (a) the distribution of average returns to capital amongst nascent entrepreneurial firms is left skewed, and (b) has higher persistence in the left tail than the right. I find that a model where the entrepreneur’s capital investment is illiquid can largely rationalize this data. On average, a continuing entrepreneur...
متن کاملModels of the Distribution of Wealth
In this paper we review some of the computable general equilibrium models based on unin-surable shocks to earnings that can be used to account for diierences in wealth holdings across households. We explore their ability to generate the key properties of the data (which we summarize by (a) a very small amount of wealth among the poorest 40% of the population (about 2% of total wealth), (b) a ve...
متن کاملAgent based models for wealth distribution with preference in interaction
We propose a set of conservative models in which agents exchange wealth with a preference in the choice of interacting agents in different ways. The common feature in all the models is that the temporary values of financial status of agents is a deciding factor for interaction. Other factors which may play important role are past interactions and wealth possessed by individuals.Wealth distribut...
متن کاملThe Wealth Distribution in Bewley Models with Investment Risk
We study the wealth distribution in Bewley economies with idiosyncratic capital income risk. We show analytically that under rather general conditions on the stochastic structure of the economy, a unique ergodic distribution of wealth displays a fat tail; more precisely, a Pareto distribution in the right tail.
