Weakened Sea‐Land Breeze in a Coastal Megacity Driven by Urbanization and Ocean Warming

چکیده
The sea-land breeze (SLB) occurs regularly in coastal areas and influences the local climate atmospheric environment. Fifteen-year observations (2005–2019) from urban, coastal, marine stations were collected to examine trend number of SLB days (SLBD) Tianjin, a megacity China. SLBD Tianjin generally showed decreasing with an annual average decline rate 3.89%. land speed decreased by 0.20 m·s−1 sea 0.69 examined 15 years. Simultaneously, distance influence summer was reduced ∼30 km. Weather Research Forecasting model developed high-resolution use data variations surface temperature (SST) applied investigate mechanisms leading weakening SLB. increasing SST led reduction difference between land, which found be dominant factor driving summer. changes density height buildings due urbanization altered wind direction areas, turn drive during fall, while increased at night urban breeze. With projections indicating ocean warming urbanization, will become weaker occur less frequently future, probably more frequent air pollution poor ventilation cities.

Ocean warming, a rapid distributional shift, and the hybridization of a coastal fish species.
Despite increasing awareness of large-scale climate-driven distribution shifts in the marine environment, no study has linked rapid ocean warming to a shift in distribution and consequent hybridization of a marine fish species. This study describes rapid warming (0.8 °C per decade) in the coastal waters of the Angola-Benguela Frontal Zone over the last three decades and a concomitant shift by a...
متن کاملObserved surface warming induced by urbanization in east China
[1] Monthly mean surface air temperature data from 463 meteorological stations, including those from the 1981–2007 ordinary and national basic reference surface stations in east China and from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) Reanalysis, are used to investigate the effect of rapid urbanization on temperature change. These...
متن کاملCoastal and Ocean Engineering
This course introduces maritime engineering, encompassing coastal and ocean engineering. It concentrates on providing an understanding of the many processes at work when the tides, storms and waves interact with the natural and human environments. The course will be a mixture of description and theory – it is hoped that by understanding the theory that the practice will be made all the easier. ...
متن کاملOcean warming enhances respiration and carbon demand of coastal microbial plankton
The increase of anthropogenic CO2 during this century is expected to cause warming of large regions of the ocean. Microbes lead the biological role in the CO2 balance of marine ecosystems, their activity is known to be influenced by temperature, and it is important to constrain and quantify these effects on bacterial carbon use. Furthermore, if warming were to enhance the carbon demand (product...
متن کاملThe coastal ocean response to the global warming acceleration and hiatus
Coastlines are fundamental to humans for habitation, commerce, and natural resources. Many coastal ecosystem disasters, caused by extreme sea surface temperature (SST), were reported when the global climate shifted from global warming to global surface warming hiatus after 1998. The task of understanding the coastal SST variations within the global context is an urgent matter. Our study on the ...
