Laboratory Experiments on Wave Turbulence
This review paper is devoted to a presentation of recent progress in wave turbulence. I first present the context and state of the art of this field of research both experimentally and theoretically. I then focus on the case of wave turbulence on the surface of a fluid, and I discuss the main results obtained by our group: caracterization of the gravity and capillary wave turbulence regimes, th...
متن کاملLaboratory PIV measurements of wave breaking on a beach
Experiment were conducted in the ESIM wave tank in Marseilles in order to study the space/time evolution of the flow field under waves breaking on an 1/15 beach slope. Fluid particles velocities were measured at different depths, before, during and after the breaking event using the Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) technique. The mean and fluctuant components of the flow were calculated.
متن کاملWave farm impact on beach modal state
The extraction of wave energy by the Wave Energy Converters (WECs) forming a wave farm results in a milder wave climate in its lee, which can have an impact on coastal processes. The objective of this work is to determine whether the beach morphology can be altered by the operation of the wave farm, and if so, to quantify this alteration. For this purpose, we examine how the farm affects the mo...
متن کاملLaboratory Experiments for Wave-Driven Sand Transport Prediction
Since the first NCK-Days 20 years ago, a significant body of large-scale laboratory experiments on wave-driven sand transport has been conducted in oscillatory flow tunnels and large wave flumes. The experiments have yielded measures of net sand transport rates for a wide range of flow and sand conditions and have provided insights that have informed the development of practical predictors for ...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling and Experiments for Solitary Wave Shoaling and Breaking over a Sloping Beach
This research deals with the validation of fluid dynamic models, used for simulating shoaling and breaking solitary waves on slopes, based on experiments performed at the Ecole Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Marseille’s (ESIM) laboratory. A separate paper, also presented at this conference, reports on experiments. In a first part of this work, a fully nonlinear potential flow model based on a Bound...
