Water plasticization accelerates the underwater self-healing of hydrophobic polyurethanes

With the development of self-healing materials and increasing demands from complicated application environment, underwater is attracting more attention. However, until now, effects different dynamic chain extender water molecular on polyurethanes have not been investigated yet. In this work, we synthesized two types with 2,4-pentanedione dioxime (DMG) bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) disulfide (HPS) as extenders, respectively. Furthermore, PDMS was adopt soft segment isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) used hard segment. It found that they all good flexibility, probably due to low Tg Interestingly, five samples own a similar at ? -112 °C, which belongs PDMS. Due hydrophilicity majority component PDMS, contact angle larger than 90°. Nevertheless, absorption experiment clearly show can absorb saturation. The experiments were carried out in both air water, proved speed DMG increased significantly. deduced could plasticize these hydrophobic polymers accelerate underwater.
