Abstract Water absorption into cementitious materials has been discussed to be anomalous because of the nonlinearity cumulative water absorbed with square root time. In this study, characteristics in porous such as autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), diatomite, and calcium silicate board were examined focusing on different pore structures gravity effect. The one‐dimensional diatomite both from top bottom surface can explained by flow under its own capillary pressure based Washburn equation. On other hand, volume AAC was not proportional effect affected rate but small for ultimate AAC. moisture content near drying only half that wetting surface. It hypothesized pores dried while fine at nano meter scale saturated humidity is concluded anomaly may complicated well conditions opposite surfaces.
