چکیده
Abstract Nectar production may be a point of sensitivity that can help link primary and secondary trophic responses to climate shifts, is therefore important our understanding ecosystem responses. We evaluated the nectar response two widespread native forbs, Balsamorhiza sagittata Eriogonum umbellatum , experimental warming in high‐elevation sagebrush meadow Teton Range, WY, USA, over years, 2015 2016. Warming treatments reduced occurrence nighttime freezing volume but increased sugar concentration both species years. effects were also evident consistent increase number flowers produced by B. . Our research suggests associated with change has potential induce shifts nectar‐feeding community changing characteristics such as which feeders are adapted.

Nectar secondary compounds affect self-pollen transfer: implications for female and male reproduction.
Pollen movement within and among plants affects inbreeding, plant fitness, and the spatial scale of genetic differentiation. Although a number of studies have assessed how plant and floral traits influence pollen movement via changes in pollinator behavior, few have explored how nectar chemical composition affects pollen transfer. As many as 55% of plants produce secondary compounds in their ne...
متن کاملClimate change reduces nectar secretion in two common Mediterranean plants
Global warming can lead to considerable impacts on natural plant communities, potentially inducing changes in plant physiology and the quantity and quality of floral rewards, especially nectar. Changes in nectar production can in turn strongly affect plant-pollinator interaction networks-pollinators may potentially benefit under moderate warming conditions, but suffer as resources reduce in ava...
متن کاملMid-Latitude (30◦–60◦ N) climatic warming inferred by combining borehole temperatures with surface air temperatures
We construct a mid-latitude (30–60 N) reduced temperature-depth profile from a global borehole temperature database compiled for climate reconstruction. This reduced temperature profile is interpreted in terms of past surface ground temperature change and indicates warming on the order of 1C over the past 100 to 200 years. The combination of an initial temperature (the primary free parameter) w...
متن کاملArtificial asymmetric warming reduces nectar yield in a Tibetan alpine species of Asteraceae.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Asymmetric warming is one of the distinguishing features of global climate change, in which winter and night-time temperatures are predicted to increase more than summer and diurnal temperatures. Winter warming weakens vernalization and hence decreases the potential to flower for some perennial herbs, and night warming can reduce carbohydrate concentrations in storage organs...
متن کاملPhylogenetic relatedness predicts priority effects in nectar yeast communities.
Priority effects, in which the outcome of species interactions depends on the order of their arrival, are a key component of many models of community assembly. Yet, much remains unknown about how priority effects vary in strength among species in a community and what factors explain this variation. We experimented with a model natural community in laboratory microcosms that allowed us to quanti...
