Warming mediates intraspecific multiple predator effects from an invasive crustacean

چکیده
Abstract Invasive alien species impacts might be mediated by environmental factors such as climatic warming. For invasive predators, multiple predator interactions could also exacerbate or dampen ecological impacts. These effects may especially pronounced in highly diverse coastal ecosystems that are prone to profound and rapid regime shifts. We examine emergent of warming on the strength intraspecific from a successful gammarid Gammarus tigrinus , using functional response approach towards larval chironomids (feeding rates under different prey densities). Single maximum feeding were three-times higher at 24 °C compared 18 overall, with potentially destabilising type II responses exhibited. However, pairs gammarids exhibited turn temperature regime, whereby synergisms found lower (i.e. positive non-trophic interactions) antagonisms detected negative high densities. Accordingly, scenarios worsen impact this species, yet implications change dependent predator–predator interactions. Emergent between abiotic biotic should considered predictions across habitat types for species.

Central-place foraging and ecological effects of an invasive predator across multiple habitats.
Cross-habitat foraging movements of predators can have widespread implications for predator and prey populations, community structure, nutrient transfer, and ecosystem function. Although central-place foraging models and other aspects of optimal foraging theory focus on individual predator behavior, they also provide useful frameworks for understanding the effects of predators on prey populatio...
متن کاملExperimental warming transforms multiple predator effects in a grassland food web.
This experimental study tests new theory for multiple predator effects on communities by using warming to alter predator habitat use and hence direct and indirect interactions in a grassland food web containing two dominant spider predator species, a dominant grasshopper herbivore and grass and herb plants. Experimental warming further offers insight into how climate change might alter direct a...
متن کاملMultiple predator effects in an intertidal food web.
1. We examined the effects of multiple predators from an intertidal boulder food web to test whether and how three different predator species affected the survival of a small amphipod species. 2. Predators were chosen because they differ in their foraging mode, two feeding at the bottom and in benthic refuges (nemertean and shrimp) and one in the water-column (juveniles of a fish). 3. Mortality...
متن کاملEcology of an Invasive Predator in Hawaii
Cats (Felis catus) brought to Hawai`i in the 1700s now occupy most habitats throughout the islands, including montane and sublapine zones. We studied home range, population genetics, diseases, and diet of feral cats on Hawai`i Island. Feral cats on Mauna Kea live in low densities and exhibit some of the largest reported home ranges. While 95% kernel home range estimates for 4 males ( x = 1418 h...
متن کاملA Non-Native Prey Mediates the Effects of a Shared Predator on an Ecosystem Service
Non-native species can alter ecosystem functions performed by native species often by displacing influential native species. However, little is known about how ecosystem functions may be modified by trait-mediated indirect effects of non-native species. Oysters and other reef-associated filter feeders enhance water quality by controlling nutrients and contaminants in many estuarine environments...
