Visual Histories of Sex

Abstract Increased access to visual archives and the proliferation of digitized images related sexuality have led a growing number scholars in recent years place practices at center critical historical inquiries sexual desire, subjectivity, embodiment. At same time, new histories science serve both expand temporal geographical frames for investigating relationships sex production, generate lines inquiry reshape studies more broadly. The contributors this issue invite us ask: What questions challenges study are posed by visual? How methodologies that focus on changing contours knowledge about sexuality? What—and where—are still needed? “Visual Archives Sex” aims illuminate current research centers media history interrogates contemporary historiographies.
