Viscous flow beneath a viscous or plastic skin

چکیده
When a viscous fluid spreads underneath deformable surface skin or crust, the peeling dynamics at front can control rate of advance rather than bulk self-similar flow. For an elastic skin, this results in quasi-static interior blister held constant pressure that is matched to narrow region behind front. In paper, analogous problem considered for deforms either viscously plastically, both. particular, assumed be thin plate material governed by Herschel–Bulkley constitutive law. We examine how such controls flow underneath, fed flux and spreading as planar axisymmetric current. As again spreading. However, contrary situation, mathematical matching viscoplastic simplified considerably result integral constraint. Despite this, structure complicated significantly any plasticity which create convoluted wave ahead main features interwoven yielded plugged sections plate.

Viscous potential flow
Potential flows u = ∇φ are solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations for viscous incompressible fluids for which the vorticity is identically zero. The viscous term μ∇u = μ∇∇φ vanishes, but the viscous contribution to the stress in an incompressible fluid (Stokes 1850) does not vanish in general. Here, we show how the viscosity of a viscous fluid in potential flow away from the boundary layers e...
متن کاملParamecia swimming in viscous flow
Ciliates like Paramecia exhibit fore-aft asymmetry in their body shapes, and preferentially swim in the direction of the slender anterior rather than the wider posterior. However, the physical reasons for this preference are not well understood. In this work, we propose that specific features of the fluid flow around swimming Paramecia confer some energetic advantage to the preferred swimming d...
متن کاملViscous and Viscoelastic Potential Flow
Potential flows of incompressible fluids admit a pressure (Bernoulli) equation when the divergence of the stress is a gradient as in inviscid fluids, viscous fluids, linear viscoelastic fluids and second-order fluids. We show that the equation balancing drag and acceleration is the same for all these fluids independent of the viscosity or any viscoelastic parameter and that the drag is zero in ...

The viscous flow induced by a shrinking sheet is studied. Existence and (non)uniqueness are proved. Exact solutions, both numerical and in closed form, are found.
متن کاملViscous flow over a chemically patterned surface.
The classical fluid dynamics boundary condition of no slip suggests that variation in the wettability of a solid should not affect the flow of an adjacent liquid. However, experiments and molecular dynamics simulations indicate that this is not the case. In this paper we show how flow over a solid substrate with variations of wettability can be described in a continuum framework using the inter...
