Virtual Surgical Reduction in Atrophic Edentulous Mandible Fractures: A Novel Approach Based on “in House” Digital Work-Flow

Atrophic edentulous mandible fractures are a challenge for maxillo-facial surgeons because of low vascularization, bone regeneration, and lack occlusion. Whereas occlusion is the main guide in reduction mandibular fractures, aim our study to show advantages using virtual surgical planning (VSP) surgery when occlusal absent. This work prospective that shows in-house digital workflow management these Maxillo-Facial Surgery Unit Federico II University Hospital Naples. Four patients who satisfied criteria were included study. For each patient, same defined CAD/CAM-based was applied. The followed four steps: (1) segmentation fracture fragments; (2) three-dimensional printing virtually reduced modelling 2.4 reconstruction plate on printed resin model; (3) aided by pre-formed plate; (4) clinical outcomes analysis. In last step, distance colour map conducted compare postoperative CT outcome. all cases, discrepancies values between two images lower than 1.5 mm, good terms facial symmetry, absence sensory disturbance, possibility prosthetic rehabilitation obtained. conclusion, VSP, with brings benefits atrophic high accuracy repositioning.
