چکیده
The human aging process is associated with systematic deterioration of cognitive and motor performance. Age-related deficits in skills symptoms decline, such as memory, attention executive functioning problems, are major contributors to a loss functional independence reduced quality life the elderly. virtual reality system presented can be used an aid for effective training those skills. use therapeutic purposes promising – not only does it provide encouraging medical psychological effects but may also considered interesting leisure activity seniors. paper presents pilot study which aims qualitatively assess usefulness VR technology-based solution functions. pre-test phase was conducted on 9 subjects aged 62-81 (M = 71.66; SD 7.00), who were asked evaluate performed tasks terms novelty attractiveness. A novel approach to rapidly prevent age-related cognitive decline
The loss of cognitive function is a pervasive and often debilitating feature of the aging process for which there are no effective therapeutics. We hypothesized that a novel metal chaperone (PBT2; Prana Biotechnology, Parkville, Victoria, Australia) would enhance cognition in aged rodents. We show here that PBT2 rapidly improves the performance of aged C57Bl/6 mice in the Morris water maze, con...
متن کاملVideo Games as a Means to Reduce Age-Related Cognitive Decline: Attitudes, Compliance, and Effectiveness
Recent research has demonstrated broad benefits of video game play to perceptual and cognitive abilities. These broad improvements suggest that video game-based cognitive interventions may be ideal to combat the many perceptual and cognitive declines associated with advancing age. Furthermore, game interventions have the potential to induce higher rates of intervention compliance compared to ot...
متن کاملCogStim Game to Prevent Age-Related Cognitive Impairment
In this paper, we present our ongoing research on developing a game grounded on evidence-based psychosocial intervention with cognitive stimulation. With a growing aging population, older adults want to actively preserve their memory in various ways. Based on brain plasticity and person-centered theories, we propose the CogStim game to help older adults exercise their memories, as well as monit...
متن کاملVirtual Reality As Communication Tool: A Socio-Cognitive Analysis
Virtual Reality (VR) is usually described by the media as a particular collection of technological hardware: a computer capable of 3D real-time animation, a head-mounted display, data gloves equipped with one or more position trackers. However, this focus on technology is disappointing for communication researchers and VR designers. To overcome this limitation this paper describes VR as a commu...
متن کاملCognitive Virtual-Reality Based Stroke Rehabilitation
Stroke is a debilitating condition with major costs for patients and their care-givers. Here we present a novel virtual reality (VR) based cognitive neurorehabilitation system for improving the rehabilitation of stroke patients with arm and hand paresis. Using a custom, low-cost kinematic tracking system designed for clinical or home use, patients engage in task-oriented interactions with objec...
