“Very Similar to Having a Pimp”: Community Advisory Board Members’ Experiences in Health-Related Community-Based Participatory Research

Despite the abundance of research on experiences researchers with community-based participatory (CBPR), there has been comparatively little published CAB members’ experiences. The goal this was to analyze lived a small sample members in recent health-focused CBPR Canada, particular focus areas for improvement. We found that experienced low perceived value from due communication patterns, education differences, and inadequate compensation. These issues may be mitigated through increased member engagement throughout process, adequate compensation, improved emotional support. This study demonstrates if methodologies are live up their promise, it is crucial enabled work true partnership researchers, receive compensation meaningful them, supported process.
