چکیده

Objective. To determine the values of Hounsfield units (HU) lumbar vertebrae predicting unsatisfactory radiological results circumferential interbody fusion at level. Material and Methods. The data patients who underwent a single-level decompression stabilization intervention L4–L5 or L5–S1 level for degenerative diseases spine were analyzed. CT images assessed before surgery with measurement HU vertebral bodies level, as well one year after to evaluate degree block formation subsidence cage. Three groups distinguished: formed bone without cage (control group), failed subsidence. Results. study presents 257 patients. incidence non-union was 32.3 % (83/257), – 43.6 (112/257). proportion reduced mineral density (BMD) 26.1 (67/257). Patients had higher ODI scores (p = 0.045 p 0.050, respectively) compared controls. presence failure is associated BMD < 0.05), score 0.05). According ROC analysis, threshold determined equal 127 HU, 136 142 L4, L5, S1 bodies, respectively. Upon reaching these values, risk combination increases significantly 0.022). Conclusions. have less satisfactory clinical outcomes. S1, respectively, are advisable use in practice predict lower levels.

Non-Union Rate With Stand-Alone Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion

Retrospective radiographic analysis. To determine the fusion rate of stand-alone lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF). Biomechanical studies have indicated that LLIF may be more stable than anterior or transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion. Early clinical reports of stand-alone LLIF have shown success in obtaining fusion and indirectly decompressing nerve roots. A consecutive case series of s...

Subsidence following anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF): a prospective study.

BACKGROUND Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) is a widely used surgical technique for disorders of the lumbar spine. One potential complication is the subsidence of disc height in the post-operative period. Few studies have reported the rate of subsidence in ALIF surgery prospectively. We prospectively evaluated the rate of subsidence in adult patients undergoing ALIF. METHODS Results we...

Complete cage migration/subsidence into the adjacent vertebral body after posterior lumbar interbody fusion.

A variety of implant-related short and long-term complications after lumbar fusion surgery are recognized. Mid to long-term complications due to cage migration and/or cage subsidence are less frequently reported. Here, we report a patient with a complete cage migration into the superior adjacent vertebral body almost 20 years after the initial posterior lumbar interbody fusion procedure. In thi...

Vertebral Endplate Cyst as a Predictor of Nonunion After Lumbar Interbody Fusion: Comparison of Titanium and Polyetheretherketone Cages.

STUDY DESIGN The bone union rate after lumbar interbody fusion (LIF) using titanium (Ti) or polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages was investigated retrospectively. OBJECTIVE To assess whether the PEEK cage is superior to the Ti cage in terms of bone union after LIF. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA We previously reported that the formation of vertebral endplate cysts is useful for predicting nonunion...

Demineralized Bone Matrix, as a Graft Enhancer of Auto-Local Bone in Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion

STUDY DESIGN A case controlled study with prospective data collection. PURPOSE To evaluate the early influence and the final consequence of demineralized bone matrix (DBM) on auto-local bone as a graft enhancer in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF). OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE DBM is known as an osteoinductive material; however, it has not been clearly recognized to enhance auto-local bone...
