Verifying the suitability of uncoupled numerical methods for solving vehicle-bridge interaction problems

The response of a structure subjected to moving load can be obtained using coupled or uncoupled methods. method is often preferred since modal superposition applicable, which implies computational efficiency and ease implementation. However, the ignores changes in dynamic features combined structural system due time-varying location load. This paper analyses extent accuracy affected by these changes. First, parametric study conducted on two discretized beam models traversed sprung mass at constant speed. error associated with calculated solution as reference. influence frequency ratios speed vehicle quantified. Heavier loads travelling higher speeds are found increase inaccuracy method. Then, analysis extended half-car rough profile. Although errors from simulation remain low for range parameters under investigation, they may not acceptable some applications, i.e., training an algorithm early damage detection.
