Ventilation strategies and indoor air quality in Swedish primary school classrooms

چکیده
The present study aimed at investigating the effects of ventilation strategies on indoor air quality (IAQ) in schools. Measurements thermal environment and IAQ were performed over 5 school days 45 primary classrooms Gothenburg, Sweden, grouped into three categories according to their system: category A) natural or exhaust ventilation, automated window opening; B) balanced mechanical systems with constant volume (CAV) C) variable (VAV). equally well respect temperature relative humidity regardless system. concentrations pollutants all generally below respective guideline values. CO2, formaldehyde, PM10, PM2.5 lower B C higher rates than A classrooms. Indoor Air Pollution Index integrating multiple was significantly classrooms, reflecting poorer IAQ. Majority had Swedish requirements. periodically reduced VAV did not lead substantial increase measured pollutant concentrations.

Indoor Air Quality in U.k. School Classrooms Ventilated by Natural Ventilation Windcatchers
The provision of good IAQ in schools is important both for the health of students and in maximising educational achievement. It is, however, common for school classrooms to be significantly under-ventilated and this can lead to high levels of CO 2 and other pollutants. Natural ventilation offers the potential to improve IAQ within schools whilst at the same time reducing running and maintenance...
متن کاملA ventilation intervention study in classrooms to improve indoor air quality: the FRESH study
BACKGROUND Classroom ventilation rates often do not meet building standards, although it is considered to be important to improve indoor air quality. Poor indoor air quality is thought to influence both children's health and performance. Poor ventilation in The Netherlands most often occurs in the heating season. To improve classroom ventilation a tailor made mechanical ventilation device was d...

Characterization of indoor air quality in school classrooms is crucial to children’s health and performance. The present study was undertaken to characterize the indoor air quality in six naturally ventilated classrooms of three schools in Cassino (Italy). Indoor particle number, mass, black carbon, CO2 and radon concentrations, as well as outdoor particle number were measured within school hou...
متن کاملIndoor air quality and ventilation strategies in the use of combustion space heating appliances in housing.
Indoor air quality (IAQ) in the use of combustion appliances is important for adequate evaluation of air pollution health risks. Since people spend most of their time inside buildings, especially the elderly and children, their exposure to indoor air contaminants can increase health problems in the community. Combustion materials emitted from combustion space heating appliances in housing durin...
متن کاملGreen School, Healthy School? The Role of Children in Post-Occupancy Evaluation to Determine Indoor Air Quality in Classrooms
Issues of internal and external air pollution, common diseases afflicting children, and concerns for optimizing learning potential are all important factors to consider in post-occupancy evaluations of air quality in schools. However, children’s perspectives on air quality are largely overlooked. Developing an appropriate methodology to include children is both important and institutionally dif...
