چکیده

Abstract The average shear-wave velocity of the first 30 metres subsoil and depth engineering bedrock are considered key parameters for simplified seismic site response modelling. However, a reliable estimate amplification should consider entire profile from ground surface down to bedrock. In deep alluvial basins, typical geological context where soil–bedrock interface may lie below penetration most common prospecting methods, only shallow can be defined in detail, while deeper structures commonly extrapolated with linear equations. choice realistic interpolation between soil still remains an open issue. We compute 1D two sectors Venetian Plain (Northern Italy) characterised by gravelly sandy formations. model columns using theoretical non-linear gradients proposed literature basins. numerical modelling results, terms strong motion parameters, show variations up 20%. effect is also evaluated comparing simulations real accelerometers recorded borehole seismometer station located at top borehole. Seismic site effects in a deep alluvial basin: numerical analysis by the boundary element method

The main purpose of the paper is the numerical analysis of seismic site effects in Caracas (Venezuela). The analysis is performed considering the Boundary Element Method in the frequency domain. A numerical model including a part of the local topography is considered, it involves a deep alluvial deposit on an elastic bedrock. The amplification of seismic motion (SH-waves, weak motion) is analyz...

Mapping seismic anisotropy using harmonic decomposition of receiver functions: An application to Northern Apennines, Italy

[1] Isotropic and anisotropic seismic structures across the Northern Apennines (Italy) subduction zone are imaged using a new method for the analysis of teleseismic receiver functions (RFs). More than 13,000 P‐wave coda of teleseismic records from the 2003–2007 Retreating‐Trench, Extension, and Accretion Tectonics (RETREAT) experiment are used to provide new insights into a peculiar subduction ...

Estimation of Hydraulic Conductivity Using the Slug Test Method in a Shallow Aquifer in the Venetian Plain (NE, Italy)

DOI 10.4409/Am-045-12-0048 Abstract: The slug test offers a fast and inexpensive field method of obtaining localized hydraulic conductivity values. In this paper, we applied this procedure in a ‘fontanili’ zone located in the middle Venetian Plain (Villaverla, VI). In this site, 34 piezometers are present in a small area of 1.5 ha, which intercepts a shallow unconfined aquifer. The experimental...
