Varroa resistance in Apis cerana: a review

چکیده

Abstract Varroa is a major world-wide pest to Western honey bees ( Apis mellifera ), causing huge ongoing losses of colonies every year. Conversely, the Eastern bee cerana ) less vulnerable mite having existed alongside it over long evolutionary period. Research conducted during 1980s and 1990s, shortly after had spread across globe, concluded that was because displayed higher levels grooming behaviour, brood removal behaviour infertility than its counterpart. However, this review on these resistance traits in A. indicates there surprisingly little evidence for conclusions. This explores discusses potential flaws studies gaps still remain our knowledge cerana.

Comparative proteomic analysis reveals mite (Varroa destructor) resistance-related proteins in Eastern honeybees (Apis cerana).

The mite (Varroa destructor) has become the greatest threat to apiculture worldwide. As the original host of the mite, Apis cerana can effectively resist the mite. An increased understanding of the resistance mechanisms of Eastern honeybees against V. destructor may help researchers to protect other species against these parasites. In this study, the proteomes of 4 Apis cerana colonies were ana...

Host Specificity in the Honeybee Parasitic Mite, Varroa spp. in Apis mellifera and Apis cerana

The ectoparasitic mite Varroa destructor is a major global threat to the Western honeybee Apis mellifera. This mite was originally a parasite of A. cerana in Asia but managed to spill over into colonies of A. mellifera which had been introduced to this continent for honey production. To date, only two almost clonal types of V. destructor from Korea and Japan have been detected in A. mellifera c...

Transcriptional responses in eastern honeybees (Apis cerana) infected with mites, Varroa destructor.

The Varroa destructor mite has become the greatest threat to Apis mellifera health worldwide, but rarely causes serious damage to its native host Apis cerana. Understanding the resistance mechanisms of eastern bees against Varroa mites will help researchers determine how to protect other species from this organism. The A. cerana genome has not been previously sequenced; hence, here we sequenced...

Transcriptomic analysis to uncover genes affecting cold resistance in the Chinese honey bee (Apis cerana cerana)

The biological activity and geographical distribution of honey bees is strongly temperature-dependent, due to their ectothermic physiology. In China, the endemic Apis cerana cerana exhibits stronger cold hardiness than Western honey bees, making the former species important pollinators of winter-flowering plants. Although studies have examined behavioral and physiological mechanisms underlying ...

Brain metabolomic profiling of eastern honey bee (Apis cerana) infested with the mite Varroa destructor

The mite Varroa destructor is currently the greatest threat to apiculture as it is causing a global decrease in honey bee colonies. However, it rarely causes serious damage to its native hosts, the eastern honey bees Apis cerana. To better understand the mechanism of resistance of A. cerana against the V. destructor mite, we profiled the metabolic changes that occur in the honey bee brain durin...
