Variable Effects on Benthic Community From Diking to Eradicate Invasive Plants in the Yangtze Estuary Salt Marsh

چکیده

The removal of invasive plants is a global concern, and ecological restoration methods have been major research topic in recent years. In the estuarine salt marsh Yangtze River, dikes are typically used projects to eradicate plant Spartina alterniflora . We explored ways optimizing dike construction providing an effective basis for wetland control protection biodiversity analyzed effects on macrobenthos fully partially dikes. measurement quantitative change diversity species composition was carried out project area before (2013) after (2016) construction. Results showed that number average density decreased significantly diked enclosed but increased semi-enclosed area. Outside area, all site samples richness This study indicated negatively affected by inside However, when tidewater canals were preserved maintain connection between outside areas, there positive effect suggest while diking gates opened regularly water nutrient connectedness dike. mostly mollusks polychaetes, which indispensable food sources birds fish. provides valid evidence management macrobenthos.

Biogenic silica in intertidal marsh plants and associated sediments of the Yangtze Estuary.

Biogenic silica (BSi) contents in the marsh plants (Phragmites australis, Scirpus mariqueter and Spartina alterniflora) and associated sediments in Chongming Island eastern intertidal flat of the Yangtze Estuary were determined. The BSi contents in P. australis, S. mariqueter and S. alterniflora varied from 25.78-42.74 mg/g, 5.71-19.53 mg/g and 6.71-8.92 mg/g, respectively. Over the entire grow...

Regulation of benthic algal and animal communities by salt marsh plants: impact of shading.

Plant cover is a fundamental feature of many coastal marine and terrestrial systems and controls the structure of associated animal communities. Both natural and human-mediated changes in plant cover influence abiotic sediment properties and thus have cascading impacts on the biotic community. Using clipping (structural) and light (shading) manipulations in two salt marsh vegetation zones (one ...

Distribution of PCDD/Fs and dioxin-like PCBs in sediment and plants from a contaminated salt marsh (Tejo estuary, Portugal).

Concentrations and profiles of 2,3,7,8-substituted polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dl-PCBs) were investigated in sediment and plants collected from a salt marsh in the Tejo estuary, Portugal. The highest PCDD/F and dl-PCB concentrations were detected in uncolonized sediments, averaging 325.25 ± 57.55 pg g(-1) ...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

from linguistics to literature: a linguistic approach to the study of linguistic deviations in the turkish divan of shahriar

chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...
