Valuable Nutrients from Ulva rigida: Modulation by Seasonal and Cultivation Factors
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ulva macroalgae species are recognized to be an underexploited source of key nutrients, including proteins, fibers and minerals. The present work evaluated the nutritional value protein, ash, mineral composition, fat, fatty acid profile dietary fiber green rigida produced in open land-based integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) system, over four seasons. Overall, protein fat content farmed algae ranged between 7.6 25.8% DW 0.2 1.3% DW, respectively, reaching highest levels during autumn/winter In turn, total ashes showed a contrary seasonal tendency, maximum spring (40.9–58.3% 25.5–38.8% respectively). Notably, latter were particularly characterized by their richness potassium, magnesium iron, sodium/potassium ratio bellow 1.7. Variable cultivation conditions stocking density (Sd) flow rate (Fr) also tested, allowing confirm that manipulation IMTA system may help improve this macroalga boost its market through use as functional food ingredient.

Insulin sensitivity: modulation by nutrients and inflammation.
Insulin resistance is a major metabolic feature of obesity and is a key factor in the etiology of a number of diseases, including type 2 diabetes. In this review, we discuss potential mechanisms by which brief nutrient excess and obesity lead to insulin resistance and propose that these mechanisms of action are different but interrelated. We discuss how pathways that "sense" nutrients within sk...
متن کاملPharmacological Potential of Ulva Species: A Valuable Resource
Ulva Linnaeus genus (Ulvaceae, Ulvales) is an ubiquitous genus widely distributed in oceans and estuaries. Currently, 128 species (accepted taxonomically) have been listed all around the world [1]. Individuals of this genus are characterized by a broad range of environmental tolerance, high growth rate and photosynthetic activity leading to a relatively abundant natural biomass. Aditionnaly, in...
متن کاملThe effects of nitrate and phosphate on growth of algae, Ulva rigida
Nutrients especially nitrate and phosphate are the main limiting factors of algal growth in aquatic ecosystems. The present study was conducted to examine the effects of different concentrations of nitrate and phosphate simultaneously on growth of macro algae, Ulva rigida. For this purpose, algae were fed various concentrations of nitrate and phosphate during 28 days in 300 L tanks in the form ...
متن کاملThe in vitro growth and differentiation of the alga Ulva rigida
The in vitro growth and differentiation of the alga Ulva rigida C. Agardh have been studied. Plants grown in enriched sea water (medium II and especially medium L) have a higher chlorophyll content and regularly release a large number of reproductive cells (in 10 days). This capability does not depend on the collecting season. It has been confirmed that axenic Viva cultures grown in solution de...
متن کاملSaturating light and not increased carbon dioxide under ocean acidification drives photosynthesis and growth in Ulva rigida (Chlorophyta)
Carbon physiology of a genetically identified Ulva rigida was investigated under different CO2(aq) and light levels. The study was designed to answer whether (1) light or exogenous inorganic carbon (Ci) pool is driving growth; and (2) elevated CO2(aq) concentration under ocean acidification (OA) will downregulate CAext-mediated [Formula: see text] dehydration and alter the stable carbon isotope...
