Transthoracic Echocardiography versus Transesophageal Echocardiography for Rupture Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm
We report a rare case of sinus of Valsalva aneurysm of both right and left coronary sinus (LCS), with perforation of the LCS opening into the left ventricle. The LCS aneurysm with its perforation was undiagnosed on transthoracic echocardiography emphasizing the role of transesophageal echocardiography in delineating the anatomy.

INTRODUCTION Purtscher's retinopathy is a rare condition that is noted in cases related to various types of trauma. The characteristic finding in the fundus is the presence of multiple Purtscher flecken. Purtscher-like retinopathy has a similar presentation in the fundus, but without an association with trauma. David Harpaz, M.D.; Pratima Shah, M.D.; Gian Itzolo Bezante, M.D.; and Richard S. Meltzer, M.D. , Ph.D. Acute rupture of the interventricular septum is a relatively unusual complication following acute myocardial infarction. The echocardiographic features depicted by transthoracic echocardiography are well described. However, transesophageal echocardiographic description of a ruptured septum ha...
متن کاملRole of Transesophageal Echocardiography in Rupture of Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm with Associated Infective Endocarditis
Introduction: Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (SOVA) may have associated infective endocarditis in which case single aneurysm may drain into adjacent chamber of heart via multiple openings. We report a rare case of congenital SOVA with associated infective endocarditis where intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) helped in localizing two separate openings in the SOVA draining into right...
متن کامل[Multiplane transesophageal echocardiography in the preoperative evaluation of the sinus of Valsalva fistula to right chambers].
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm to right cardiac chambers is an uncommon lesion in Western countries. The prognosis is usually serious unless the condition is promptly treated surgically. For this reason an accurate anatomical and functional evaluation is necessary. The main purpose of this report is to compare the usefulness of multiplane transesophageal echocar...
