Vagus Nerve Stimulation Through Electro-acupuncture for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

چکیده
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is defined as a chronic inflammatory-mediated that causes ulceration and inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Among most patients, course of repeatedly shows intermittent exacerbations alternating remissions. However, despite various therapeutic options to relieve symptoms, such corticosteroids, TNF-α inhibitors, antibiotic drugs, there no known cure for IBD. Nonetheless, previous research has revealed autonomic nervous system involved pathophysiology In this study, we reviewed clinical trials confirming effect vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) on IBD vivo. We searched vivo human studies Pubmed using keywords combined with “vagus stimulation”, “VNS”, “inflammatory disease”. All included review reported direct VNS effective relieving symptoms severe adverse effects. The frequently stimulated site was unilateral cervical area, parameters were set 5-20 Hz. Based results, aim summarize evidence efficacy suggest possibility auricular electroacupuncture treatment option

Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Acupuncture Stimulation via the Vagus Nerve
Although acupuncture therapy is widely used in traditional Asian medicine for the treatment of diverse internal organ disorders, its underlying biological mechanisms are largely unknown. Here, we investigated the functional involvement of acupuncture stimulation (AS) in the regulation of inflammatory responses. TNF-α production in mouse serum, which was induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) admin...
متن کاملIs-there a place for vagus nerve stimulation in inflammatory bowel diseases?
The vagus nerve (VN), the longest nerve of the organism that innervates the gastrointestinal tract, is a mixed nerve composed of 80% of afferent and 20% of efferent fibers. The VN has anti-inflammatory properties, in particular an anti-TNFα effect through the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway. The VN is a key component of the autonomic nervous system, i.e. the parasympathetic nervous system...

INTRODUCTION Lafora body disease (LBD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by progression to inexorable dementia and frequent occipital seizures, in addition to myoclonus and generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCSs). It belongs to the group of progressive myoclonus epilepsies (PMEs), rare inherited neurodegenerative diseases with great clinical and genetic differences, as well...
متن کاملVagus nerve stimulation in the treatment of nervous system disease: a review article
The vagus nerve (VN), the longest cranial nerve and an essential part of the parasympathetic system, connects the central nervous system to respiratory, cardiovascular, immune, gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems and is involved in the maintenance of homeostasis by controlling these systems. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is related to any method that would stimulate the vagal nerve via elec...
متن کاملVagus nerve stimulation therapy
Over the past 5 years, and especially within the last year, there has been a rapid expansion of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS)-related preclinical research, as well as clinical studies in indications other than epilepsy. The research advances in understanding VNS are occurring in the midst of a blossoming of other forms of therapeutic brain stimulation, such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), t...
