Abstract This article aims to discuss the perceptions and actions of public authorities regarding process introduction, production, conservation, distribution, application smallpox vaccine; emergence institutions associated with vaccine vaccination; its main obstacles in Bahia nineteenth century. The emphasizes local regional dynamics this process. It addresses problem colonial Bahia, arrival Jennerian vaccine, diffusion vaccination method, establishment health institutions, disease control measures implemented as 1808.
