Utilizing Almond Oil with Vitamin E as an Alternative Fixative to Formalin

چکیده

Introduction: The health hazards resulting from exposure to formalin have given rise the need of developing safer alternative fixatives. Almond oil has been widely used in aromatherapy and cosmetic industry for its good penetrating skin-rejuvenating properties, whereas vitamin E is a known anti-oxidant. present study aimed test fixative efficacy almond with as compared formalin.
Material Methods: was conducted on 42 tissue specimens obtained by crown lengthening procedure or other minor surgical procedures. were divided into two groups- 21 group fixed while others 24 hours. Routine histopathological procedures done histomorphological parameters related preservation architecture well cellular details assessed.
Result: tissues AO comparable that formalin. Although statistically non-significant, all three investigators agreed oil-fixed exhibited superior nuclear Conclusion: can be effectively fixation tissues, providing results are formalin-fixed tissues. non-toxic, non-irritant chemical nature coupled ease availability, enable it utilized safely even remote areas

P-181: Protective Role of Vitamin E As An Alternative Treatment for Ovariectomized Osteoporotic Rats

Background: Osteoporosis one of the postmenopausal symptoms is characterized by bone loss. There is a link between excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, estrogen deficiency due to cessation of ovarian function and bone loss. Free radicals are responsible for causing osteoblast apoptosis and reducing osteoblastogenesis in bone remodeling. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant with the a...

Methanol as an alternative fixative for cytological smears.

Ninety-five percent (95%) ethanol is the standard cytological fixative used in many laboratories. Commercially available ethanol is expensive and not freely available in some institutions. Methanol, a tissue dehydrant, is also known to be a cytological fixative. However its efficacy has not been assessed or documented in the literature. One hundred and eight consecutive fine needle aspiration b...

Acetic acid-zinc-formalin: a safe alternative to B-5 fixative.

B5 fixation achieves superior morphologic detail. However, environmental concerns have led to labor-intensive and costly requirements for disposal of mercury-containing fixatives. We performed a blinded prospective study to find a safe, mercury-free alternative to B5. Morphology was evaluated with 6 fixatives, including B5, in a blinded fashion. Acetic acid-zinc-formalin (AZF) was selected for ...

Glyoxal as an alternative fixative to formaldehyde in immunostaining and super‐resolution microscopy

Paraformaldehyde (PFA) is the most commonly used fixative for immunostaining of cells, but has been associated with various problems, ranging from loss of antigenicity to changes in morphology during fixation. We show here that the small dialdehyde glyoxal can successfully replace PFA Despite being less toxic than PFA, and, as most aldehydes, likely usable as a fixative, glyoxal has not yet bee...
