Utility of platelet count and platelet indices as a prognostic indicator in pregnancy induced hypertension

Background: Changes in the hemostatic system are observed both normal and hypertensive pregnant patients. Although exact pathophysiology of pregnancy induced hypertension is not completely understood, numerous pathophysiological mechanisms, alone or combination, have been suggested to be responsible for diverse subsets PIH.Methods: This was a prospective case control study conducted on 100 females (50 PIH 50 normotensive) at Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi, from October 2020 May 2021. platelet count indices (mean volume ratio mean volume) 32 weeks time delivery were checked Outcomes compared.Results: For predicting PIH, showed sensitivity 82% specificity 54%, MPV 54% 82%, PC/MPV 62%. pre-eclampsia without severe symptoms, 89.47% 47.62%, 47.37% 76.19%, count/mean 31.58% 100%. We also found that with symptoms 100% 26.32%, whereas, equal 55.56%, 44.44% 84.21%.Conclusions: decreases while increases severity hypertension.
