چکیده
Primary lateral sclerosis is a disorder categorized by insidious onset of progressive upper motor neuron dysfunction without lower involvement. PLS often presents with gradual-onset, extremity stiffness and pain due to muscle spasticity. Intrathecal Baclofen pumps (ITB) have been used effectively treat spasticity in several neurologic conditions including MS spinal cord injury. This study aimed at reviewing cohort patients requiring ITB assess the clinical course, benefits, complications these patients. Imaging evaluation of intrathecal baclofen pump-catheter systems.
ITB pumps are widely used in the treatment of intractable spasticity for many clinical indications, including cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury. High-dose intrathecal administration places the patient at significant risk for withdrawal in the event of device malfunction, necessitating rapid and complete evaluation of the pump-catheter system. This article reviews the approach to imaging eva...
متن کاملComplications of Intrathecal Baclofen Pump: Prevention and Cure
Increasingly, spasticity is managed with surgically implanted Intrathecal Baclofen pumps. Intrathecal Baclofen pump revision surgery unrelated to programmable pump end-of-life is not uncommon, requiring special attention during pre-, intra-, and postoperative management. We aimed to identify and describe complications of Intrathecal Baclofen pump as well as to report avoidance and management of...

BACKGROUND The delivery of intrathecal baclofen via pumps is gaining increasing use in the management of intractable spasticity. One of the rare but devastating complications of this method is infection. In the majority of cases, removal of the device is required, despite appropriate intravenous antibiotic therapy. We report a case that highlights the use of intrareservoir teicoplanin to achiev...
متن کاملIntrathecal baclofen withdrawal syndrome- a life-threatening complication of baclofen pump: A case report
BACKGROUND Intrathecal baclofen pump has been used effectively with increasing frequency in patients with severe spasticity, particularly for those patients who are unresponsive to conservative pharmacotherapy or develop intolerable side effects at therapeutic doses of oral baclofen. Drowsiness, nausea, headache, muscle weakness, light-headedness and return of pretreatment spasticity can be cau...
متن کاملIntrathecal baclofen in multiple sclerosis: too little, too late?
The majority of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) have symptoms of spasticity that increasingly impair function as the disease progresses. With appropriate treatment, however, quality of life can be improved. Oral antispasticity medications are useful in managing mild spasticity but are frequently ineffective in controlling moderate to severe spasticity, because patients often cannot tolera...
