Uterine Artery Embolization End Points and Collateral Circulation: Value of Intra-Procedural Non-Contrast Cone Beam CT

چکیده
Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a well-accepted treatment for symptomatic uterine fibroids, but endpoints of UAE remain controversial. This significant concern as incomplete can lead to failure, necessitating repeat or alternative treatments such hysterectomy. Multiple potential causes failure have been described including catheterize one both the arteries, spasm, clumping embolic material and collateral blood supply vascularizing fibroids. In this review, we discuss approaches identifying uterus suggest that intra-procedural non-contrast cone beam CT provides unique advantages addressing issue.

Contrast enhanced imaging of human meniscus using cone beam CT.
OBJECTIVE Meniscal injuries can lead to mechanical overloading of articular cartilage and eventually to knee osteoarthritis. The objective was to evaluate the potential of contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) to image contrast agent (CA) diffusion in human menisci with a clinical cone beam CT scanner. DESIGN Isolated human menisci (n = 26) were imaged using magnetic resonance imaging ...

متن کاملUterine Artery Embolization of Uterine Fibroids
T he uterus is the most common site to develop smooth muscle tumors. Uterine fibroids (leiomyomas) contain benign smooth muscle and fibrous tissues. Twenty percent to 40% of reproductive age women develop uterine fibroids, with a higher incidence in African Americans. Although the decline in hormonal stimulation causes most fibroids to regress at menopause, 20% become symptomatic before then. U...

IN the March 2003 issue of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology (1), Dr. Bruce McLucas advocated that gynecologists learn the skills to perform the procedure of uterine artery embolization (UAE) as treatment for symptomatic leiomyomas. Although few gynecologists currently have the advanced, specialized catheter and guide wire skills necessary to perform this procedure, McLucas describes a route t...
متن کاملApplication of cone-beam computed tomography angiography in a uterine fibroid embolization procedure: A case report
One of the main causes of failure in uterine fibroid embolization procedures is incomplete infarction of the fibroid due to alternate vascular supply to the fibroid which was not identified by the operator. Cone-beam computed tomography angiography was used in this case to avoid nontarget embolization via a uterine artery, as well as identify incomplete embolization of the fibroid. This prompte...
