Using shrimp shells as based catalysts for FAME production from palm oil feedstock

چکیده

In this study, waste shrimp shells from industry were used as a heterogeneous bio-based catalyst for trans-esterification reaction of fresh palm oil. CaO was prepared calcination. Surface area, phase composition, and basicity the calcined shell catalysts studied using N2 adsorption (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), CO2 temperature-programmed-desorption (CO2-TPD), respectively. The influence calcination temperature operation condition, methanol to oil ratio on reaction, investigated. Five hours carried out at 65? different four temperature: 700, 750, 800 850? with 9:1 determine suitable highest FAME yield. Methanol ratios varied 6:1, 9:1, 12:1 15:1 selected catalyst. According results, basic strength mixed hydroxy-apatite phases received by 800? catalyst, yield 87.54% under optimum condition reaction: temperature, 5 h time, 9 wt% loading, ratio.

Sulfonation of phenols extracted from the pyrolysis oil of oil palm shells for enhanced oil recovery.

The cost of chemicals prohibits many technically feasible enhanced oil recovery methods to be applied in oil fields. It is shown that by-products from oil palm processing can be a source of valuable chemicals. Analysis of the pyrolysis oil from oil palm shells, a by-product of the palm oil industry, reveals a complex mixture of mainly phenolic compounds, carboxylic acids, and aldehydes. The phe...

Waste Cooking Oil as an Alternate Feedstock for Biodiesel Production

As crude oil price reach a new high, the need for developing alternate fuels has become acute. Alternate fuels should be economically attractive in order to compete with currently used fossil fuels. In this work, biodiesel (ethyl ester) was prepared from waste cooking oil collected from a local restaurant in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Ethyl alcohol with sodium hydroxide as a catalyst was use...

Biodiesel Production from Palm Oil using Heterogeneous Base Catalyst

In this study, the transesterification of palm oil with methanol for biodiesel production was studied by using CaO–ZnO as a heterogeneous base catalyst prepared by incipient-wetness impregnation (IWI) and co-precipitation (CP) methods. The reaction parameters considered were molar ratio of methanol to oil, amount of catalyst, reaction temperature, and reaction time. The optimum conditions—15:1 ...

Alkaline Earth Metal Oxide Catalysts for Biodiesel Production from Palm Oil: Elucidation of Process Behaviors and Modeling Using Response Surface Methodology

Four different alkaline earth metal oxides i.e. MgO, CaO, SrO and BaO were used as heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel production from palm oil. Effects of critical process variables i.e. reaction time, methanol to oil ratio and temperature were investigated. The results were then fitted to a historical design to study the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), to characterize interactions between...
